If You Ain’t A Cowboy, You Ain’t Shit

Bumper sticker wisdom is elite

This line came from a bumper sticker on the back of a red Ford pickup truck that I walked past this morning.

If that ain’t the truth, folks.

The Cowboy is America’s symbol and the paragon of the human spirit. It’s the embodiment of freedom, love, and grit.

It’s the principle-driven soul who won’t compromise in the face of evil.

It’s the person who carries a reverence for the wild and who knows that lying in the buffalo grass watching clouds pass is just as important as tilling the fields day after day.

The Cowboy is bold and messy. His wisdom is earned through heartbreak and the sober hindsight of mistakes made through action, not in some sterile classroom where theory and hypothesis dominate.

To be a Cowboy isn’t birthright; it’s daily choice:

  • Honor your word

  • Respect yourself and others

  • Live wide open

The saddle is life. Meant to be ridden, fallen from, and mounted again. Each ride humbles you. Each fall teaches. Mastery isn’t the goal, movement is.

There’s a Cowboy in all of us.
You meet that version of yourself the moment you decide to live fully….in the now.

Cheers,
Don’s & Donette’s

I’m back home in Texas for a very brief stint and I’m reminded of why it is that I love this part of the world so much. Kindness here isn’t guarded or rare, it’s shared freely, passed from stranger to stranger through a smile and a simple desire to connect.
