Do Not Let These Times Divide You From Your Neighbour

The death of Charlie Kirk should not be celebrated, and it should not be used as an excuse to stop talking with one another.

I didn’t agree with a lot of things Charlie said, or how he said it. He could’ve been more graceful, less combative. But the beauty in his work is that he chose to engage with those who saw the world differently.

Right now it feels like everyone in America wants an outlet for their anger. The default is to place the blame on the opposing side by either mocking the death of a fellow human being or by pointing the finger towards half of America, blaming them for Charlie Kirk’s passing.

If we continue to use each other as an outlet for our rage, then we will only grow further away from one another. If we do this, we all lose.

If someone came screaming at you, eyes full of hate, finger wagging in your face like you were a child, how would you react?

Would you smile and listen?

Would you engage with them cordially?

Would you look for cracks in your own beliefs to see if what they were saying held any truth?

I bet you wouldn’t.

So why do it to them?

Why think that you can find a path to cohesion through violent dialogue?

I urge you to take a step back and give yourself an outlet for your unresolved anger.

  • Write

  • Spend time in Nature

  • Join a combat sport

  • Go to a mountain and scream until you weep

Express the rage that you have inside of you so that you can return to a state of calm and engage with someone who see’s the world differently than you with stillness.

Because if you don’t do it, then who will?

Everything is a reflection of you so the responsibility to make the world a better place is yours.

Find stillness and approach the other with compassion and curiosity. Do not let this time further divide you from your fellow human being.

With love,

Don Rob
